The famous CEO explained: Is the Metaverse project dead?

The Metaverse, which Facebook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced with great fanfare and claimed would shape the future of internet habits, has seemingly vanished into thin air. Since its announcement in 2021, the project has cost Meta over $10 billion, and the latest developments are highly anticipated. However, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has not yet lost hope in the project.

Razer CEO: “The Metaverse is not dead yet”

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, who believes that artificial intelligence technologies will shape the gaming world, remains optimistic about the Metaverse. Speaking at the SXSW Sydney event, Tan argued that platforms like Roblox and Discord are essentially the first steps toward a true Metaverse experience.

The CEO also emphasized that a new era is beginning for independent game developers, saying, “Thanks to artificial intelligence, it will no longer be necessary to have large teams to develop quality games. Of course, some of the content that emerges will be mediocre, but small teams and indie developers will be able to create groundbreaking projects with AI support”.

Despite Meta’s (formerly Facebook) multi-billion dollar investment, no tangible success has yet been achieved with the Metaverse. Tan, however, offered a more grounded perspective, stating, “The days when we all wear VR glasses and live in a virtual universe may be far off, but the gaming world has already created its own version of the Metaverse”.

What do you think about this? Do you believe the Metaverse project has failed? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
